If you are planning on undertaking refurbishment or demolition work it is important that you know where asbestos may be located. This can only be done by having a thorough audit carried out and will involve sampling any suspect materials. During this process the correct personal protective equipment and respiratory protective equipment must be worn to prevent exposure to any released asbestos fibres. Disposable overalls, gloves and shoe covers should always be worn when dealing with asbestos as well as a respirator containing at least a P2 filter. Any dusty residues must be cleaned up with an H-type vacuum and all asbestos must be disposed of in the correct way at an approved location. There are people who specialise in removing asbestos and it is safest to organise a suitably qualified person to do any work that may affect asbestos containing materials.
